On vegetarianism

I am a vegetarian, though I always follow that up with, I don't think I am better than anyone else because of that.

My reasons are as follows:
1.Meat (esp. beef) is an extremly ineffient source of food. We feed a cow the equivalent of the grain needed for a small family. Also, cows take up massive amount of space (1 acre yields 165 lbs of beef or 20,000 lbs of potatoes*).

2.Meat is unhealthy. It can be a source of nutrition but it is unnessary. All the chemical energy in meat can be traced to plants. And soy is a better source of protein..

3. It's gross (to me... its a reason not an arguement).

That said, I have nothing against meateatting and definately nothing against meat-eaters. I think that you should be able to eat whatever the hell you want, just like me.

BTW PeTA is crazy (Their homebase is in my hometown... they are whackjobs, even if well-meaning. Look up Ingrid Newkirk. Animal Liberation is scarY!)

peta is definatly crazy. I am a veg head. The only one in the history of my family. Ever. But Peta beat up one of my friends for buying her medication, because they tested on animals. She came to school with a black eye and her lip was bleeding.

I believe it... Peta is extreme. Their homebase is also my home town, so they would go to our schools alot to pass out propaganda.

I'm also the only veg in my family history..

I tried going mostly veg (I allowed myself some meat on the weekends) for about two months. It wasn't so bad, and I actually enjoyed (and still do) eating lots of salads.

But alas, I love meat too, so I'm staying omnivorous. That's how my teeth are designed - I'm going to continue using it that way ;). But, to each his own. As long as people don't shove it down my throat, I won't shove meat down theirs. Fucking crazy PETA...

So you stop eating it?

There's plenty of space to go around, you know. This isn't Hong Kong or anything.

"2. Meat is unhealthy. It can be a source of nutrition but it is unnessary. All the chemical energy in meat can be traced to plants. And soy is a better source of protein."

Meat is not unhealthy. What part of meat is unhealthy? Meat is the BEST source of protein and B12 on the planet. Plants do not satisfy our system as well as meat does.

Meat IS necessary. Unless you take a vitamin to replace what you lose by refusing to eat meat, you will become sick. You can only get B12 from animals. It cannot be created in a lab and cannot be found in plants.

All chemical energy can be traced back to plants? What are you talking about?

"3. It's gross (to me... its a reason not an arguement)."

'Reason' means 'argument.'

Why is it gross? We're supposed to eat it. Plants grow and move and stuff too... EW! Growing food! EW! Bacteria!

Meat is not any grosser than anything else. Your thinking is very selective, and there must be a reason why you think that, because humans naturally want (need) meat. So, why? Have you been raised by vegetarian parents? Or just brainwashed by vegetarian groups?

I'd think the latter, since you seem very ignorant on the subject. I suggest you stop taking people's words for things, wise up a bit, and go eat a burger or something.

Oh yes, I was thinking of

Oh yes, I was thinking of vegans, not eating any animals products and such, sorry. But like I said, none of those points are valid, and no, vegetarianism is not the right idea.
