American Oil

In case any of you dont watch the new the US just found an oil reserve in the Gulf of Mexico that will more than double our oil supply. This is amazing because now gas prices should do down drastically and decrease our depence on foreign oil.

Just thought it was in interesting new topic.

The news came out a few days

The news came out a few days ago but i think it was 6 months ago or so that they started drilling and just recently found how big the oil reserve is.

Sad part is that this is still a puddle compared to the reserve that is Alaska. The reserve in Alaska makes Saudi Arabia look like a puddle. But thanks to national forest on the plot of land we will never see that oil.

We still need to work on

We still need to work on becoming independent from oil and have a renewable resource to fuel our cars and industry.

Thats not going to happen

Thats not going to happen for a long long time. Science just isnt advanced enough yet...

Solar- not practical when with the technology right now only lets us get 5% energy from the sun

Hydrogen- simply just cant contain it

Wind- just doesnt give us enough and cost more a lot

The only practical one right now is ethonal, not petrolium.
Brazil makes ethonal out of sugar cane which is amazing.

Well... if the situation got bad enough, do you think they would do it?

They want to do it but there

They want to do it but there are a lot of animal rights groups who are stopping them. The national forest has a species of deer that only live on the preserve. If they got the oil it would kill off the deer and the deer only live there so it would kill there species.

This may be a stupid

This may be a stupid question but how come it would kill off the deer?

It would change there

It would change there migration route and that would change the kind of food they would find, than eat. And being in Alaska there is no other food source that they could find quick enough to adapt to. They are not a huge population so they could not keep there population big enough to survive.

Does this thread count as going off topic? Not that I care, 'cause it's still intellectual and interesting I'm just trying to get a feel for what he meant.

I am going to be a good

I am going to be a good little girl and not inform you all of how I plan to take over the world.

but i love animals. I'm afraid of almost all of them, including deer, but I love them, What i dont' get is why they don't just move the deer. Which is probably one of the stupidest things ever, and I just don't realize it yet

KimTheFaerieFreak there is

KimTheFaerieFreak
there is something like 400 deer in the whole national park by the time they move them all they wouldnt be able to find spots for all of them and they would die off.

"Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind."
Albert Einstein

Im not sure exactly what he ment by it i just have my own thoughts on it. Instead of pulling a definition out of my ass i will see if i can find the actual explination for it...i just think its an interesting quote.

keasbynights241
i wouldnt say its getting off topic its just going into more detail. It went from oil in the Gulf of Mexico to oil in Alaska, and then the problems with that oil.

my thoughts on the quote

my thoughts on the quote are, just that he believed one needed to exist for the other to exist. or at least, without science, religion has nothing to keep it in line, and science without religion to debate and prove wrong, would be lame and boring

Yea, now Bobby Jindal has

Yea, now Bobby Jindal has sent the bill so now I think its legal. It was some kind of historical fluke why we didnt get a equal share.
