I have read nearly every Kurt Vonnegut Jr. novel, currently I am reading "The Bagombo Snuff Box." He is my favorite author. In my opinion his two most notable books are Slaughterhouse Five and Cat's Cradle, the latter being my all-time favorite book.
The Catcher in the Rye, by J.D. Salinger
1984, by George Orwell
Crime & Punishment, by Fyodor Dostoyevsky
Kite Runner, by Khaled Hosseini
These are my favorite novels, but there are many others.
Too many to list.
House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski
BOOKS aaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh
Siddhartha, narcissus and Goldmund, Demian, Catcher in the Rye, Steppenwolf, The Anti-Christ , that about covers it. I love Hermann Hesse though.
Basically, everything written by Stephen King are my favorites.
And I also like The Da Vinci Code a lot :)
Me likey:
Of Mice and men (Short and sweet) + East Of Eden (I am looking forward to Grapes of Wrath) - John Steinbeck.
Catcher in the Rye, I am working on Franny and Zooey
-J.D. Salinger
Siddhartha, Demian
-Herman Hesse
I really want to read "Being and Nothingness" -Sartre, and These two (primarily) by Nietsche- The Anti-Christ + Beyond good and evil.
I'll read Anything by H.P. Lovecraft, and Hunter S. Thompson is also awesome.
I hear lovecraft is just a tad morbid. What have you drawn from his work? I actually just gave "The doom that came to Sarnath away, because I have too large of a book list...
It's horror fiction, it's supposed to be morbid! :P
I have a few to list, but my favourite book of all time is...
And the Ass Saw the Angel by Nick Cave
Absolutely amazing. One of only three books that I've been able to finish in about just a week, because I couldn't put it down. (And I'm an incredibly slow reader... ^^;)
Ahh, I read a lot, but lately:
Chuck Klosterman - Sex, Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs
- Killing Yourself to Live
Friedrich Nietzsche - The Anti-Christ
Bertrand Russell - Why I am not a Christian
Chuck Palahniuk - Choke
- Haunted
There's so much more than that though.
It's always the books I'm currently reading...probably because my memory isn't the best.
So
-Harmonies of Heaven and Earh: Mysticism in Music from Antiquity to the Avant-Garde by Joscelyn Godwin (Wow this book is insanely fun to read)
-The Second Foundation by Isaac Asimov (My first time reading Asimov...I should have read the first two books in the trilogy, but this is still a great read!)
Big ups on Dostoyevski though. One guy who I think truly understands human motives.
Asimov is excellent. I suggest reading the end of the series now that you are reading Second Foundation, then go back and read the beginning. The books are slightly better when you know where they are going, I think, because then the suspicion reverts itself: How can it even end this way? Instead of How will it end?
I have quite a few favorite books, like Great Expectations and others. I'm currently reading The Atheism of Astronomy by Woolsey Teller for the second time. It's a really great one; it's about the designing of the cosmos and how astronomy testifies against a divine intelligence. (It's available in an ebook version somewhere on the web, Google it if you want to read it)
I like most of Ayn Rand's books - Anthem, Atlas Shrugged
I havent read the Fountianhead yet
I like most objectivism books and anything that really is pro individualist
I read the da vinci code and thought it was cool (i had no idea what Phi was...)
I love the Lord of the Rings and The Harry Potter series (not a bunch but still)
Most religious texts that I have been exposed to are mormon in nature (our library is somewhat limited)
I would actually like to read the Critique of Pure Reason by Kant... it is a little above my level (I tried and i got lost in the first page... so...)
Holy Blood, Holy Grail
Da Vinci Code
The Holy Bible
Katrina
Wall and Piece - Banksy
Anything Spike Milligan, Douglas Adams, Bill Shakespeare, Tom Holt, Terry Pratchett, Maddox, J.D. Sallinger or George Orwell.
Anything that's not Dan Brown.
America [The Book] Teacher's Edition - Jon Stewart
That's as much as I can be bothered to time. Bed-time.
haha, why not Brown?
Wow! Nobody has mentioned The God Delusion! by Richard Dawkins. Also, if you like fantasy check out Dragons of Autumn Twilight.
I havent read the God Delusion (I doubt that my parents woule appreciate it...)
haha, why not Brown?
I don't find him remotely intelligent or interesting. His works are either factually flawed or extremely elementary and just souped up to look sophisticated.
'omg it's backwards righting lOLOlol'
If you want a good read, pick up 'The Da Vinci Cod' by Don Brine.
Hahaha, Ok, sounds like a good read... haha, I thought it was a good book (not as intellectual as some but a good novel.... haha)
K Ill read the cod by Don Brine hahaha...
The anarchist cookbook is a horrilble book, if you want to read a real anarchist book, read recipe for disaster: an anarchist cookbook.

Welcome to the board, Oonerspism!
I don't read much, but I've got a few favorite books (in no order) - Anthem (Ayn Rand), The Diamond Age (Neal Stephenson), Great Expectations (Charles Dickens).
I absolutely love to read, and while I am a major Ellen Hopkins fan, I really like Vonnegut and Stephen Chbosky.
Also, Tao Lin happens to be one of my personal favorites. His stuff is really trippy but his book of poems "you are a little bit happier than i am" is amazing.
On the topic of poetry, I also love Billy Corgan's first book, "Blinking With Fists".
Miranda July is amazing with "No One Belongs Here More Than You", and I have to give props to whoever mentioned "House of Leaves" because it's incredible.
On this forum though, I am really surprised to see that no one has mentioned "Beam Me Up, Jesus" by Jim Gerard. Personally, I found that to be one of the most hilarious books I have ever read.
Hey, I didn't see this topic was posted before the Books forum was created. Moving it now.
Currently reading The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand. Great read so far, the language is very direct and clear, no metaphors, "flat" characters, black and white world view, all with a complex plot.
