Religion-based given names?
My first name is Hernoor. I always knew Noor was Arabic for light, but somehow I never realized that the prefix Her- (which is a variation of Har-) is Punjabi/Gurmukhi for "God".
I suppose that means a hardcore atheist is the light of God. :D
I have found that i dont really like most of the bible names... I dunno why. I think that the cool names came from the old norse.
OOOHH! Talk about religious names.. People in my community are named after fictioal characters from the Book of Momon (how would nephi fit in in other places?)
I searched my name, Michael, and it said that it means "who is like god?"
It's weird.
And for it's pretty cool that you get to be the light for something that really doesn't exists. :-P
Lol, if you're like god, would that make you non-existent too? :O
Hmm, I never thought about it like that, let me check.
Hey, everyone!
If you can read this, I exist. :-p
My name, Ian, is a form of John (dont exactly know how...)
John Means Yahweh Is Gracious... so god is in my name too... darn

Lol, nice proof. :D
I normally go by simply Noor, and besides, I so love irony.

Umm, That was interesting... but why put it in the naming forum?
*as for names... I think that most (if not all) names are religion based. Does anyone know of a name that has no religious roots?
Haha, Why? IT is proably really cold ... so you would need to burn lots of fuel... haha
I think that if someone could just buy an island or a large portion of africa they could make their own country... (i dont know this but you might...)

Cool article, thanks for the link. ;) Wish I could escape there and form a secular and libertarian "civilization" there.. :)
Nah, I don't get cold easily. :) Mauritius would be nice though. Or an island in the South Seas...until a religious terrorist bombs the entire world.
They wont do that... i heard that terrorists dont like bombs... or was that immorality that they dont like... i get so confused

This thread doesn't have as many posts as the other ones.
Oh, ok... :)
Yeah, plus I wanted to hear more thoughts about this from other people, too. :)
