Our Environment

Libertarians and Environment

For the libertarian atheists, how do you guys feel abou the environment?

nucler power, should we have it??

the planets buggered, we all know that, but how are we gonna save it.

Here in australia we have recenly been met by a series of droughts and our dam water levels have been reaching critical levels. this has been proven to be caused by our ever increasing problem of global warming. Our current govenment has recognized this and has started taking steps to develop a nulcear power industry. unfortunatly the opposition has been rejecting the idea and has been pushing for more solar and wind power and the development of more efficiant coal use. they are also arguing that nuclear power is unsafe and unreliable, and unfortunatly the majority of people are beliving them.

Seasteading

I don't think anybody here has ever heard of this. Very few people have.

There's a group that's trying to build self-sufficient floating platforms for people to live on, and colonize the oceans.

It's related to the environment somewhat, so I figured I'd post it here.

http://www.seastead.org/

Basically they want to make a big, bouyant platform with a heavy weight underwater to keep it upright, that will be able to exist in the middle of the ocean with minimal reliance upon land.

The top floor is a big garden to provide food, you could also fish for food, it would have solar panels (or possibly wind or wave power) to provide electricity (which can be used to electrolyze water to generate hydrogen fuel for cooking), desalination facilities to provide water, and solid waste would fertilize the garden. That's pretty damn green if you ask me.

Theory Concerning Global Warming and a New Ice Age

http://www.commondreams.org/views04/0130-11.htm

Basicly, we can never know when the next ice age is going to come, but global warming is speeding it up. The weather can change drasticaly (not like the day after tommorow) but more into one year can be perfectly fine, then the next year i just drops and in 5 years, summer and spring don't even show up.

This is pretty freaky, and the only place to really be safe of this would be near the equater, but we will probably evolve, and make it habitable.

how to really help the Environment

I dont beleive in god or anything like that, to me religion is a pillar we lean on when things get tough, truth is we create problems for ourselves, so if business counter balances religion and vice versa.

take / giving
Just like yin and yang.
Then i would rather have faith and beleif in human creativity and not rely on a promise.

Anyway
My point or start is the fact that humans produce far to much that does not need producing ,sure in society this is seen as entreprenuerial but does most of what we make and produce add to our base of knowledge and better the human understanding of life?

An Inconvenient Truth

I think this movie is perhaps the best insight to the severity of the state of our environment and how we are going to pay dearly if we don't start taking care of it right away. For those of you who have seen it, I have heard that the things Gore says about the severity are just being "Sugar Coated" according to leading environmental scientists.

And for those of you who haven't seen it, do so, you'll have a new point of view on the state of our environment..

Our Enviormental problems

There are many problems with the enviornment, all of which are major ones, the reality of the situation is that these problems, large or small, are adding up. The questions that we should be asking are what can we do to stop them, how can we reverse the changes at hand, and what laws should be passed to protect our future. Not much money is being given to research of enviormental problems. The oil companies and the overall patrolium industry has been absorbing the finite fossile fuels like water through a tap, but all wells dry, and oil reserves are no diferent. Reliance on fossile fuel is irrational. Our economy is based on something that cant be constanly produced. Also the ammount of greenhouse gasses are being expelled by everything, at large mass, every single day. What are we doing to reduce pollution? not too much, we continually cut down rainforests which restore our oxygen, and pollute our air with chemicals that can no longer be broken down by the trees. Were digging ourselves into a deep hole, and everyday we just dig our economic and overall all earthly grave, and why? Impact theory states that Impact is equal to the multiple of three things. these three things are the rooted cause of enviornmental disaster. Population growth:
