What about Jesus?

I am new to the site. I have been reading about how silly it is to believe in God and how people that do believe are irrational people. So, I was just wandering what people think about Jesus. Since, it has been proven through historical documents that he did exist, that he did die on a cross, and that he physically rose from the dead (since you know he was seen by hundreds of people over a period of forty days).
Also, if you are a evoluntionist, what do you do with all the gaps in the fossil record. I mean if evolution is the way to go, why are there zero fossils that are in the stage of changing from one species to another.

Me the lifelong atheist

I've been an athiest my whole life. I come from a family of non-practicing jews and I was never pressured into taking up any kind of religion at all. Being left to my own devices, I rejected the notion of there being a Santa Claus on the simple basis that there is no acutal evidence that such a character could actually exist. I realized shortly thereafter that God couldn't exist for the exact same reason - a gigantic hole where the evidence should be.

Instead, as the years went by, I found evidence to support that God doesn't exist. News articles about evolution and how scientists have further explored the link between man and ape, as well as the undeniable proof that dinosaurs existed, only debunked any argument for creation. Also, the evidence that, heterosexuality, bisexuality, and homosexuality are now genetic traits conflicts with the idea of creation. Why would God create people who would be damned to Hell right from birth?

Santa Claus was a mushroom.

Now, I was reading this and I thought it was interesting. I'm going to copy and paste the stuff I was read on http://www.joerogan.net/main.php

I suggest to look at the pictures in the link.

"Greetings and holiday love, one and all. Not that fake ass holiday love that you get from the aggressive charity collector with the bell and the bucket in front of the supermarket, I offer you all the real shit, just like you get from Grandma.

Christmas is my favorite holiday, and not just because of the fact that you exchange gifts with loved ones, and celebrate, but because I’m aware of the original meaning behind it all.

Truth and "Catholic Guilt"

Truth and "Catholic Guilt"

Moses and the Commandments

I couldn't tell you how many times I've heard people blame their personal failures or psychological stresses on "Catholic guilt" in the last 20 years. It is as though the Church is the great rain cloud ever shadowing the grand Mardi Gras that so many expect life to be. All that stands in the way of a good old time is the Church and her teachings regarding sin. Whether subtle or not so subtle, we see this condemnation in the movies, in the general media, in politics and in some treatises from the theological far-Left. Not a few people leave the Church thinking to rid themselves of this vestige of "medieval thinking".

Nothing much

Yes, I am new to this site (like 2 hours and 15 minutes.) I was looking on myspace for atheists, since I only know one, and found the freethinking teen myspace account. Eventually I found a link to this site. It is very interesting. I have been viewing it off and on for hours, and I don't plan on stopping anytime soon. I was suprised at the number of members on this site. It may not seem like a large number to most of you, but I live in the bible-belt south, and everyone is extremely religious. I have basically no contact with nonreligious people. I would like to support your causes, but my pa

Jesus Dolls REJECTED

Jesus dolls rejected from Toys for Tots program
Bible-quoting toymaker surprised its offer of 4,000 dolls was turned down

LOS ANGELES - A company that sells Bible-quoting Jesus dolls said it was surprised and disappointed that the Marine Reserves’ Toys for Tots program turned down its offer to donate 4,000 of the talking dolls.

“I believe as a churchgoing person, anyone can benefit from hearing the words of the Bible,” said Michael La Roe, director of business development for Valencia-based Beverly Hills Teddy Bear Co. and its one2believe division, which makes the line of Bible character dolls.

Once Upon a Time

How can the innocent die young while the corrupt live so long? How can a precious life be snuffed out without the blinking of an eye, the shedding of a tear? How can we turn our backs, pretending it doesn't happen...when it does? How can we ignore the silent crys, the silent pleas for life, for destiny? There is a generation that never had the chance to live. A generation who never even saw the light of day, the hope of morning. Why have we let them go? Why have we closed our eyes to this injustice?

Once upon a time the innocent had a hope

It hoped to see her soon,

It dreamed of what it must be like to play with her,

Death

I'm not afraid of death. Everyone worries about dying and how they will die. They all want to die peacefully, but why? What does it matter? As long as it ends in death it shouldn't matter. All I know is you shouldn't worry about how you die; you should worry about how you live. Now it's the suffering in life that hurts. The pains that don't lead to death, but are close enough. Heartaches, disease, death of loved ones, the true suffering we experience everyday. The pain before death doesn't compare. At least then you are released by death.

Question about jesus' existence

Theist vs. Atheist on the existence of Jesus Christ

Jesus existed because I have faith he existed vs. -faith is irrational and one can't use faith to prove empirical evidence

Jesus Christ existed because the bible said he existed vs. -the bible was written 30-40 years after his supposed existence
-It had no other resources to support it

There were four main historians that have evidence of his existence

vs.

-Josepheus, Tacitus, Seutonius, Pliny the Younger
-All of these sources were written later than 95 AD

Sorry, we're not home right now.

Jehovah witnesses.
Oh, where do I begin?
Pamphlet after pamphlet on how I'm wrong, they're right, and I should go to their church and give them money.
Knocking on my door at un-holy hours (haha :P) of the morning, waking me up from the only sleep I get all week, to give me booklets, pamphlets, blahblahblah. Usually I'm at a loss for words since the whole process goes so quickly and I'm left with a blank look on my face at 9 am Saturday morning with papers in my hand. Every week I promise to "get them" next time. Oh, I will eventually. I'll stay up all night long if I have to. Then I'll be the one to attack them with pamphlets and booklets and ask them for money. Give 'em a taste of their own medicine.

Pope Science

Pope Benedict XVI has stated that the world’s sciences are still far too narrow to give any reason for his mystic bullshit. Now long enough ago PBXVI said:

“Modern scientific reason quite simply has to accept the rational structure of matter and the correspondence between our spirit and the prevailing rational structures of nature as a given, on which its methodology has to be based.”

At the end of all scientific enquiries is the Christian god? The core belief of the Catholics is transubstantiation. In his own words, the leader of the Catholics stated:

“…our Lord Jesus Christ is truly, really, and substantially present in the most holy sacrament of the Eucharist, and there is a change of the whole substance of the bread into the Body, and of the whole substance of the wine into Blood…”

Godrape

The virgin birth isn't unpopular: Silva the Vestal Virgin. Buddah's Maya was unspermed. Zoroaster's momma never did it and neither did the mother's of Adonis, Indra, or Mithra. Somewhere somehow a woman is pushing her child through her untouched hymen. Ever imagine what that would feel like.

Your with the animals, in labor. The suffocating child lodged in the birth canal. Trapped in an enclosing inescapable tube. The man made exit that should be there isn't. The wise men are slapping their foreheads exclaiming, "Shit! I forgot about that! Does anyone have a fondue fork!?"

I would love to hear a descriptive account of such an incident.

Question

Are there mythical heroes, besides christ, that were born of virgins? If so can I have a list of three or four? I'm trying to explain to a friend that a prophecy made in Isaiah could have been meant for other so called messiahs. thanks
